Islander wins third world ringette medal
Marion Clark of Charlottetown added a third world ringette championship medal to her collection Saturday. The Morell native was an assistant coach with the Canadian team that picked up the silver following a 5-4 overtime loss to defending-champion Finland in the final game of the world championship Saturday in Ottawa. Markjukka Virta’s power-play goal with 1:04 left forced overtime and Anne Pohjola scored at 11:06 of the extra period to give the Finns the victory before a disappointed, pro-Canada Civic Centre crowd of 5,501. As a player, Clark had won silver in 2000 and gold in 2002 at the world championships. Finland had beaten Canada twice in recent days, winning 7-4 in an exhibition match in Montreal and 10-5 Thursday during round-robin play.
