2008 Ringette PEI Provincial Champions

Novice, Ch'town Curley with a 6-4 win over Montague Gill
Petite, Ch'town Snipers with a 9-7 win over Montague Jackson
Tween, Montague Kent with a 8-7 win over Ch'town Crushers
Junior/Belle, Belfast with a 8-5 win over Ch'town McInnis
Open, Montague with a 8-3 win over Ch'town
Ringette PEI Season Ends on Busy Note
Ringette PEI recently crowned the 2007-08 Provincial Champions at the Pownal arena. Teams from Belfast, Charlottetown, and Montague all won Championship games. This concludes the playing season for these Associations although some Provincial teams continue for another week. Starting Monday, the PEI Junior team are participating at the Canadian Ringette Championships in Saint Albert, Alberta. The PEI team has a tough opening day when they play Alberta and Saskatchewan. Also at these National Championships in Alberta is Brittany MacEachern who was picked up by the New Brunswick Belle team after PEI was not able to attend; while Kendra O’Brien and Rachelle Law will play in the Open division with a Maritime all star team. These Championships conclude with the gold medal games on Saturday. While later this week, the PEI Tween team will be traveling to Longuiel, Quebec for the 2008 Eastern Canadian Tween Championships.
Following the conclusion of the Eastern Canadian and National Championships next weekend, the next event for Ringette PEI will be the Annual General Meeting and Awards reception in early May. Final dates and details on both events are currently being worked on as Ringette Canada will be attending and making presentations. Award nomination forms are currently on line at www.ringettepei.ca with a deadline date of 4:00pm Wednesday April 16th.
The following are the individual game reports on the 5 Provincial Championships held at the Pownal Arena.
Charlottetown Curley won the Novice division with a 6-4 win over Montague Gill. Robyn Power’s goal with just over 3 minutes to go sealed the win for her team. Montague mounted offensive opportunities in the final minutes but could not beat Byrnn Carmody in goal. Charlottetown was led by Brianne Curley with 4 goals, with Ayrna Rogers scoring the other goal. Assists went to Power 2, Cassidy Hughes and Hannah LeClair. Montague goal scores were Steven Hicken 2, Olivia Gill, and Austin Sorrie; assists to Gill, Mackayla Martell, Ellie Beck, and Emma Collings.
The second Charlottetown title was in the Petite division with team Snipers winning 9 to 7 over Montague Jackson. Alysha Corrigan lead the way with 6 goals and 1 assist, while other scorers were Monica Downe 2, and Kerri Lynn McInnis; assists to McInnis 3, Downe 2, Nicole Maund, and Madison James. Montague was led by Julia Patton with 4 goals and 1 assist, Megan Walsh 2 and 1, Alexandra Gay 1 and 2, and Makayla Jackson with 3 assists.
Sasha Mooney’s forth goal of the game with just under four minutes to play gave the Montague Kent Tween team a 8 to 7 win over the Charlottetown Crushers. Mooney chipped in with 2 assists while Bailey Clements had 2 goals and 2 assists, Jenny McCarron 1 and 1, and Chanel Campbell; assists to Brynn CanWiechen 2, and Kelsey Llewellyn. Charlottetown was led by Sue Ellen McInnis with 2 goals and 2 assists, Sidney Corrigan 2 and 1, Tayla Hatton 1 and 3, Miranda Corrigan and Hannah Nickleson with singles while Maria McQuaid had 1 assist.
The Junior/Belle team from Belfast took over in the second half with 5 goals on their way to a 9 to 5 win over Charlottetown McInnis. Belfast had a balanced attack with 8 people picking up points. Brittany MacEachern led the way with 2 goals and 3 assists, Jennifer Morrison 2 and 2, Jessica Visser 2, Shelby McKenna 2, Laura MacRae, while assists went to Krista MacEachern 2, Sarah MacPhee 2, and Candace Nicholson. Charlottetown was led by Lynn MacKay with 3 goals and 1 assist, Paige Blakely 1 and 2, Megan Newson 1, and Kately McSwain with 2 asssits.
In the final Championship game of the day, it was a first year Open team from Montague winning the Provincial title over Charlottetown 8 to 3. Montague was led by Tara Bagnall with 1 goal and 4 assists, Ellen MacDougald 2 and 2, Alesha Publicover 2 and 1, Mariah Thomson 1 and 2, Melissa Leard 1 and 2, Chelsey Leard, and Jenna Dockendorff with 1 assist. Charlottetown goals were scored by Heather Coles, Tiffany Doucette, and Kayla Hume while assists went to Coles, Doucette, Kristin Casey 2, and Becca Coles.
