Ringette PEI Junior Team Takes Home Atlantic Bronze

The Ringette PEI Junior Team played very well and took home bronze at the recent 2009 Atlantic Ringette Championships in Dieppe/Memramcook, NB.   The PEI team beat the NB host team 10-3, lost a very close game to NB 7-5.   In the deciding round robin game, a late goal by NS put them in the final with a 6-5 win over PEI.

In the Bronze Medal game, PEI faced the NB host team again and this time won by a score of 7-2.   The team was lead by 3 goal performances from Sarah McIsaac and Kaitlyn Gallaway,  and 1 goal by Danika Melanson. Assists went to Jolisa Hume (3), Erica Cudmore, Emma Kelly, Taylor McGregor, Olivia Leard, and Danika Melanson.   The winning goalie was Danielle Saunders.

Head Coach Jerry Hughes states, “ I am extremely proud of the girls both on the ice and off. This is a great way to prepare for the upcoming Nationals hosted here on PEI in April.   The game against Nova Scotia was an exciting, hard fought battle between the two teams. PEI almost had them and N.S. knew it and fought to get that one last goal to win the game. We almost had them, we'll get them at Nationals.”
